Why I am not in Beijing now!!!

This week starting from Sunday, Feb. 7 is the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) holiday week. Chinese just go home for reunion no matter what is their obstacle. Since the megacity Beijing has so much population that comes from outside of the city. I would say nearly half of the city’s population would leave town. So Beijing in this particular week would be empty, literally empty. Isn’t that wonderful!! No traffic jam, no car horns, no bumping in the subway. Heaven!!

Some figure I would like to show you. It will explain why I am feeling this upset for not being in Beijing.

Resident population for Beijing is about 22 million, and over 8 million out of 22 are from outside of the city. This part of external population normally leave town and go home during this Spring Festival week. There are also people like me would leave town for a couple of days because my grandma (mother’s mother) leave outside of the city. And there will always be people using this holiday for travel. So literally, Beijing is empty.

*pictures above are the comparison between normal days and the holiday week.
